twintuitionist: ([boy] mirror)

"Jeremeeee." The door was being pounded on, with little regard for Stephanie or for whether anyone else might like to sleep. (Though, this being a Darling twin on a Saturday, it wasn't especially early anyhow.) While the voice was different, the intonation was definitely Juliet's.

Juliet had heard that every so often, people turned into the wrong gender on the island. She could believe it, after the past year: She just didn't want to think about it. So when she woke up and realized things weren't quite right, she only had a brief moment of complete and total freakout before she found a mirror.

The equipment was different, but she was almost okay with it if she just looked like Jeremy. Not thrilled, because she liked being a girl, but if she had to be a boy her brother was about as comfortable a fit as she was going to find.

She just had a few pressing concerns.

"Let me in, doof. I wanna see if you're me now." Another few knocks. "Jeremy! I am stretching out my clothes."

Jeremy Darling
It took Jeremy way too long to wake up, even with the pounding at the door. (Sorry, he happened to like sleeping.) Eventually, though, he did waken enough to half fall out of bed.

"I'm coming, I'm coming," he muttered, stumbling to the door, which he then opened and then stared blearily at ...the person standing there. It was too early for this stuff, it really was.

"... Why am I in the hallway?"

Yeah. Too early.

Juliet Darling
"You aren't, I am," Juliet said, then got confused. "... unless I'm you now. Wait, am I? And why aren't you me?"

Jeremy Darling
"Because I'm me!" Jeremy exclaimed, oh so helpfully. But at least he was starting to really wake up now, even if that seemed to only lead to rubbing his eyes and frowning. "Why are you me?"

Juliet Darling
"I don't know, because the island went crazy!" Juliet guessed. "Wait, so if we're both you, what happened to me?"

Jeremy Darling
"You're not me, I'm me!" Jeremy replied. Then he took a deep, calming breath. Inhale, exhale. "This is some... island voodoo again. Like when, when I was that Candy lady that wasn't all lady?"

Juliet Darling
"And I was that random Anna girl, right," Juliet remembered, and copied the breathing thing Jeremy had done. It helped. "Okay. So I'm still me. And you're still you. We're just ... identical. For a little bit."

She hoped it was for a little bit, anyhow.

Jeremy Darling
"It better be for a little bit." He hesitated a bit after that, realizing what he'd said. "I mean you're maximum, Jules, you know that, but... This is not on."

He could be a twin, he loved being a twin, but he did not want to be identical.

Juliet Darling
"Well, fine," Juliet said sulkily. "I don't want to have your stupid face for long anyhow."

She didn't want to be identical for life either, she was just a bit put out by how quickly Jeremy had reached that conclusion.

Jeremy Darling
Jeremy looked offended, too. "It's not a stupid face, it's a great face," he argued. "I just don't want... you..."

Yeah, he was hesitating and having a really hard time coming up with an ending to that sentence that wouldn't get him smacked.

"It's my face! I like that it's mine. I mean, there was that old dude with the bad hair, but he wasn't identical. You're identical, it's freaking me out!"

Juliet Darling
"It's not like I'm doing it on purpose!" Juliet claimed. She tried to see it from the other side and failed. "I would have been nice if you were the one who looked like me. I was nice when you were that Candy person."

Dear Juliet, you don't get credit for things you do when you aren't yourself.

Jeremy Darling
"That wasn't you!" Jeremy pointed out, as the marginally more rational twin should. "That was that Anna chick! That's cheating!"

... Maybe not that much more rational.

Juliet Darling
"Maybe, but, but --" Juliet didn't really have a good comeback.

"Why don't you dye your hair or grow a mustache or something?" she suggested. "Then we aren't identical. Problem solved."

Jeremy Darling
"What? No. Nuh uh." He shook his head, fervently. "No, I'm the original. You dye your hair or, or grow a mustache or something!"

Nevermind that Jeremy knew his face – their face, now – didn't seem to really grow any cool facial hair.

Juliet Darling
"But it might stick when I turn back," Juliet argued. "No way. Maybe we can just dress way different or wear nametags or something."

Ugh, nametags.

Jeremy Darling
"Well," Jeremy started, then trailed off as he finally took a look at something other than the face Juliet was currently sporting. "... What are you wearing? You can't go around looking like that, you'll ruin my street cred."

Because he so had some. Really. Ignore the space print on the pajama bottoms he was wearing right now.

Juliet Darling
"I know, I told you I was stretching them out," Juliet said woefully, looking down at her now-very-fitted tank top and long gauzy skirt. (It was one of the few things she owned with a drawstring waist.) "Plus I'm pretty sure you don't want people asking why you wore a skirt. "

Jeremy Darling
Jeremy's eyes widened. "No. No no no, I definitely don't." That would be worse than just having to be identical. He gestured for her to come inside. "Come on, get in. I'll find you some clothes."

Juliet Darling
"It's a really nice skirt," Juliet said, but she wasn't making the argument too hard, because she didn't want to look like the weird boy in a skirt either. "But thaaaaank you."

She breezed in like it was her room.

Jeremy Darling
Jeremy barely noticed, because it was just that strange to see yourself walking into your room. He tilted his head, mesmerized.

"You move all wrong," he muttered, then shook his head. "Whatever." He'd focus on the important stuff. "What brand do you want?"

That was the important stuff if you were a Darling.

Juliet Darling
"The red Marc Jacobs shirt?" Juliet wardrobe-modded said. "And whatever jeans are clean."

Of course she had an answer.

Jeremy Darling
Jeremy really wouldn't have expected anything less. "Coming right up," he said, as he went to rummage through his fairly messy closet.

He had his own sort of logic working in there, though, and it wasn't long before he produced a pair ofdark blue jeans and the shirt she'd requested. "Ta dah."

Juliet Darling
"Best brother ever," Juliet said, clutching the garments to her chest. "And I'll try to move less like a girl. The new parts are confusing."

Jeremy Darling
"Yeah they can be like that." He had no idea, really. He was back to being uselessly weirded out. "This is too freaky."

Juliet Darling
"More or less freaky than the old guy with bad hair?"

The list of things Juliet did not discuss with her brother was short, but details about how weird she felt about having a penis was on there.

Jeremy Darling
It wasn't high up on Jeremy's list of things to talk about, either, she could rest assured.

In fact it was really gross, considering the whole identical thing and ugh ugh ugh, gross. "More," he replied without hesitation.

Juliet Darling

"Okay!" Juliet didn't quite get it, but she wasn't the one who got doubles. Maybe she'd feel different when one turned up.

She took a few steps toward the door. "God. I'll try not to bug you too much until it goes away."

Jeremy Darling

Jeremy had the decency to look apologetic. Somewhat. "I'm sorry, Jules, I'm just way wigged out right now," he said. "Please don't do anything that'll damage my rep too bad."

Meanwhile, he was probably going to hide out right here until this all went away.

Juliet Darling

"Like I'm not way cooler than you are to start with," Juliet informed him with righteous indignation. "Stay wigged if you want to. I will make your rep awesome."

She flounced out on that particular thought, no doubt leaving Jeremy with many reasons to hide for the weekend.
